Collaborating with architects and local bamboo craftsmen through a learning process of design and construction The Big Build is a six week Design and Build studio that engages designers, villagers, architects, and amateurs in a process of discovering contemporary countryside in China. We worked with the local villagers and bamboo craftsmen to envision a long term program that brings people from the city back to the countryside. Revolving around the idea of an artist village, we used bamboo as the primary construction material and constructed a common space for the villagers.
